Volunteer Information Overview |
|
The helping hands of a Fredericksburg SPCA Volunteer touches the lives of many people and animals. The diversity of jobs that are available for volunteers coupled with self-enrichment and social rewards makes our volunteers some of the most dedicated in the Greater Fredericksburg Area. |
|
As a Volunteer, you can contribute to the community and enhance the quality of life for yourself and animals in the community. One of the greatest benefits of volunteering at the SPCA is knowing that you are part of a team providing care to so many animals and their families. You will soon come to realize just how valuable you are to the animals and to us at the SPCA. All volunteers are required to be 16 years of age or older (18 years old to work with the dogs). |

Before Volunteering: Some Things to Consider |
|
Giving your time and talent to a cause you believe in can be one of the most rewarding experiences in life. Volunteering can have a positive effect on your community AND yourself. But before you make the decision to create the time to volunteer, stop and ask yourself a few important questions. |
- Do I have any previous/current volunteer experience or will this be my first experience volunteering?
- Do I have skills that could be used by the SPCA?
- Would I like to learn new skills and am I willing to take the time to learn them?
- Do I enjoy interacting with people? Am I friendly and outgoing?
- Why am I interested in volunteering at the SPCA? What do I know about the SPCA's services and programs?
- Do I accept the philosophy of the SPCA regarding its animal receiving, adoption, spay/neuter and no-kill policies?
- Do I want to work directly with animals? Am I comfortable handling dogs, cats, puppies and kittens of all sizes, ages and personalities?
- Do I have any allergies or conditions that I should consider before working directly with the animals?
- Would I prefer to volunteer directly at the shelter or to volunteer in the community with animals? Or would I prefer to support the SPCA's work "behind the scenes," helping with other tasks?
- Can I commit to being a volunteer on a consistent basis for at least 6 months? Are there personal or professional obligations that would routinely be a barrier to being able to commit to my volunteer responsibilities?
